2020 Spring Conference Rescheduled

The annual IPMA-VA Conference scheduled for March 29-April 1, 2020 has been rescheduled for August 9-12, 2020 due to the Coronovirus pandemic.  Details related to this rescheduling are available HERE.

About the IPMA-VA

The Virginia Chapter of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources serves as the statewide association for public sector human resources professionals.  The Virginia Chapter exists to:
Provide a forum for persons engaged in public human resources administration to discuss current issues.
Explain and interpret the objectives of public human resources to the general public, civic groups, public officials and public employees.
Encourage and facilitate cooperative action among public jurisdictions and private employers within the Chapter area on matters of mutual concern.
Facilitate the professional development of members by providing training and networking opportunities.
Implement objectives and programs of IPMA within the Chapter area.
Enhance the professional relationship of the Chapter with other public sector and professional associations.
Membership may be held by any human resources staff member of any public jurisdiction in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Additionally, associate membership is available to human resources professionals working in the private sector and students.

2020 IPMA-VA Conference

The ipma-va 2020 Conference will be held August 9-12 at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center, Virginia Beach, VA.  The tentative agenda for the conference is available HERE.

2019 IPMA-VA Leadership Retreat!

The 2019 Spring Conference was held October 20 - 22, 2019 at the UVA Inn at Darden, Charlottesville, VA.  An agenda for the retreat is available HERE.

Karen Wiscott Receives the 2019 Debby Didawick Scholarship Award

Congratulations to Karen Wiscott, recipient of the 2019 Debby Didawick Scholarship. Before transitioning into the public sector about two years ago Karen worked in private sector human resources for over 15 years. She started as an Administrative Assistant for an insurance company over 15 years ago and found a love for benefits, which led her into human resources. Since then she has worked continuously to advance her career over the years to achieve her current position as Director of Human Resources for New Kent County. In addition to working full-time she obtained her MBA in 2017, her SHRM-CP certification in 2018 and recently earned her IPMA-SCP certification in November 2019, all of which have played a part in the upward movement in her career. Karen has a passion for leadership, training and education, and she strives to make a direct difference in people’s work environment. she joined the local IPMA-Richmond chapter in 2018 when she started with New Kent County and this year joined the national IPMA chapter as well when enrolling in the IPMA-HR Fall Developing Competenciesfor HR Success course. IPMA has played a major role in helping Karen,s transition from private sector to public sector and advancing her career.
